C. L. Moore's Major Works Short Stories: "Shambleau" (1933) - Space adventurer Northwest Smith is taken in by an enigmatic, seductive alien with a very deadly secret. Introduced the adventure for the duration of his many stories. This story is obviously Moore's most famous tale. "Black God's Kiss" (1934) - The red-headed and fiery female queen of a French fief travels down to hell for a weapon to defeat her greatest enemy who has conquered her people. This was the first of the Jirel of Joiry stories, and a member of the sword-and-sorcery genre of speculative fiction. "Black Thirst" (1934) - Northwest Smith must do battle with unfathomable---but deadly---beauty. "Tryst in Time" (1936) - Two perfect people who are perfectly made for each other find one another by means of time travel. "Hellsgarde" (1939) - A Jirel of Joiry tale. This time, the sword-wielding heroine is coerced into a quest for a magical talisman. "Fruit of Knowledge" (1940) - Moore retells the creation story, giving an already existing character a much more prominent role. "No Woman Born" (1944) - A dancer dies in a terrible accident and is brought back to life in Moore's cyborg-inspired "Frankenstein." "Vintage Season" (1946) - Written with her husband Henry Kuttner. A futuristic society gets its thrills from watching past events...but what just what kinds of events, exactly?
