2001: A Space Odyssey is Stanley Kubrick's groundbreaking 1968 film that studies the progression of the human race through technological advancement and space travel. The film has four sections that detail the evolution of humans from apes to space travelers; a) The Dawn of Man, b) The Moon c) Jupiter Mission: 18 Months Later d) Jupiter & The Infinite Beyond. Influenced by the short story "The Sentinel", by Arthur C. Clarke, Kubrick and Clarke adapted this story into a screenplay to accomodate Kubrick's grand vision of the human race's cosmic adventure through time. The aim of this website is two-fold. The first is to provide a detailed summary and analysis of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The second is to comment on and analyze Stanley Kubrick's directorial style and ambition. It is the intention of this website to further influence the viewing and appreciation of this film, being that it is one of the most culturally influential films of the 20th century.
