Summary:

Paul Swenson is an astrophysicist who is talented in multiple fields such as poetry and music. Swenson’s friend, Hidey Takamura, convinces him to clone himself, saying that one lifetime isn’t enough to develop Swenson’s various talents. On the other hand, John Aschenbauch, a minister, tries to prevent Swenson from cloning himself, saying that genetic engineering is fundamentally wrong. Swenson, ignoring these warnings, clones himself five times and produces five identical copies. These clones are then shunned and criticized by the public, which both fears and loathes them. However, the clones were created for a purpose and they must overcome the obstacles placed by society in order to achieve their goal.

Questions:

Should multiple cloning be allowed? When, if ever, is it justified?

Should cloning be selective? For example, should we only be allowed to clone geniuses, philanthropists and others who would be beneficial to society?
