Joanna and Walter Eberhart move their family to the beautiful Connecticut town of Stepford, where all the women are smiling, cleaning housewives. But Joanna, an intelligent woman with an interest in photography, is not content with Walter making all of the decisions for their family. Joanna and her friend, Bobbie, suspect something is happening to the women of Stepford that takes away their intelligence and leads them to spend their days baking, cleaning, and discussing which starch is the most effective. When Walter joins the mysterious and elite Men's Association, based in an ancient and guarded manor house, Joanna begins to suspect that the men are behind the changes in the Stepford Wives.
