History

The Spider-Man films, The X-Men films, and Fantastic Four films are based off of their widely popular comic book series from Marvel Comics. These superheroes and their stories have become a significant part of pop-culture because they are used in a variety of movies, comic books, TV shows, and video games that people continually use today.

Spider-Man was a revolutionary hero because he broke the superhero mold with the creation of Spider-Man. Peter Parker is an average teenage kid with the same problems all teenagers have, with the exception of superpowers and the responsibility of protecting New York City. Spider-Man won massive appeal because of his lovable, relatable character:

“Spider-Man, despite the fact that he was not originally intended to star in a series, became the epitome of the radical innovations that characterized The Marvel Age. Lee used him to challenge the very concept of the super hero. Spider-Man was neurotic, compulsive, and profoundly skeptical about the whole idea of becoming a costumed savior. The Fantastic Four argued with each other…but Spider-Man had to struggle with himself” (Biography 2).
